Keeneland to Provide Live Video Streaming of
Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit

The Keeneland Association will provide a live video stream when the third Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit is held on Monday, June 28, and Tuesday, June 29, at the Keeneland Sales Pavilion in Lexington, Ky. All of Monday's sessions and one session on Tuesday will be open to the public and available by video stream at keeneland.com.

The summit, which is coordinated and underwritten by The Jockey Club and Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation and hosted by Keeneland Association, will convene more than 60 industry representatives for wide-ranging discussions of equine health- and safety-related issues.

Monday's morning session begins at 8 a.m. and will include a panel discussion on racetrack surfaces followed by updates on the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium, the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance, the Thoroughbred Safety Committee and the Equine Injury Database.

Monday's afternoon session, which begins at 1 p.m., will feature panel discussions on racing equipment and safety, racetrack environment and safe training practices, and transitioning Thoroughbred racehorses to second careers.

Following closed work group sessions and identification of goals and objectives, Tuesday's open session will begin at 11 a.m. and consist of a panel discussion on implementation of safety and soundness recommendations.

The first two Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summits, in 2006 and 2008, have been the catalyst for many initiatives that improve the safety and integrity of the sport, including the Equine Injury Database, the Racing Surfaces Testing Laboratory, recommendations concerning traction devices on front shoes, and bloodline durability indices.
