OBS Kicks off Ocala Initiative with $10,000 Gift to Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation
| |
The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation announced today that it has launched its Ocala Initiative and that the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company (OBS) has donated $10,000. The Ocala Initiative is dedicated to building support throughout Florida for research to advance equine health and welfare. "We're thrilled to have the support of OBS, and we greatly value their commitment as a cornerstone partner of this initiative," said Garrett Gleeson, director of development and major gifts at the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. "By making this gift, OBS is recognizing the value of equine research, and this initiative is a win-win for all involved." The foundation is working with businesses and organizations in equine-related industries in Ocala and throughout Florida to raise $100,000 and will then solicit matching funds from individuals. The funds will be earmarked to support equine research at the University of Florida. "The initiative is designed to give those in the equine business the opportunity to give back to the horses that give so much," Gleeson added. Past Grayson-funded research developed vaccines for equine influenza and viral arteritis, defined Colitis X, and developed the field of biomechanics in horses, among other significant accomplishments. Current priorities include laminitis, foal pneumonia, and exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhaging, as well as the full range of health and soundness issues that can affect horses. "OBS is proud to step up and support this important initiative," said Tom Ventura, president of OBS. "We believe that advancing equine health and welfare is central to our mission, and we're excited to partner with Grayson to support equine research in the state of Florida."
