Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation Named Official Charity of 2020 Land Rover Kentucky
The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, traditionally the nation’s leading source of private funding for equine medical research that benefits all breeds of horses, has been chosen as the Official Charity of the 2020 Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by MARS Equestrian™ (LRK3DE). The prestigious five-star event returns to the Kentucky Horse Park, April 23-26, and will host a special farm-to-table fundraising dinner at Spy Coast Farm, located right next door to the Horse Park. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Official Charity.
“The Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event is one of the most iconic events on the equestrian calendar each year, and we are honored to be named as the official charity of this prestigious competition,” said Dell Hancock, chairman of Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. “The money raised from this partnership will improve the lives of all horses, from three-day eventers to horses in your backyard.”
Since 1983, the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation has provided more than $27.5 million to fund 366 projects at 44 universities in North America and overseas. Through the years, research funded by Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation and its predecessor (the Grayson Foundation) has uncovered solutions to critical problems affecting horse health as well as clues to numerous other solutions of equine health issues. For more information, visit grayson-jockeyclub.org.
“EEI has a long-standing tradition of supporting charities that serve the local community and support the equine industry,” said Lee Carter, executive director of Equestrian Events, Inc., producer of the event. “The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation does a wonderful job of both and we are delighted to work with them this year as our official charity.”
As the official charity, Grayson-Jockey Club Research will receive a portion of the proceeds from a special fundraising charity dinner on Thursday, April 23, at Spy Coast Farm in Lexington, Ky. Spy Coast Farm specializes in the breeding and development of top quality performance horses and has three farms located along the East Coast. Spy Coast’s beautiful 800-acre farm on Ironworks Pike in Lexington houses their Breeding, Young Horse Training Center, Quarantine facility, Equine Rehabilitation and Fitness Center and, most recently, an Equine Education Center. “We are excited to serve as the site for the farm-to-table charity dinner during the 2020 Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by MARS Equestrian,” said Lisa Lourie, owner of Spy Coast Farm. “Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation has had a consistent history of excellence in serving the equine industry and we are proud to be able to support them.”
The LRK3DE Thursday night charitable fundraising dinner, sponsored this year in-part by Georgetown-Scott County Tourism, Tito’s and Blade and Bow, has become a favorite among fans. Each dinner has afforded guests rare access to a local horse farm or special venue such as the state capitol in Frankfort. Tickets will be available soon and typically sell out quickly. Please watch the Land Rover Kentucky social media for info on ticket availability.
Known as “The Best Weekend All Year,” the LRK3DE is a thrilling multi-day competition featuring Olympic-level riders and horses in what can best be described as an equestrian triathlon. Horses and riders compete for $400,000 in prize money in three phases of competition – Dressage, Cross-Country and Show Jumping.
LRK3DE is one of only seven annual Five Star three-day events in the world and is the first and longest-running five-star in the Americas. As the United States’ premier event, it also serves as the Land Rover/USEF CCI-5*-L Eventing National Championship presented by MARS Equestrian.
As part of the action-packed weekend, the third annual $225,000 Kentucky CSI3* Invitational Grand Prix presented by Hagyard Equine Medical Institute will take place on Saturday afternoon, April 25, after the cross-country portion of the LRK3DE. Stadium seat tickets for the Grand Prix are just $5 and are available here. There will also be a $37,000 Welcome Speed Cup Ranking Class on Friday in the Rolex Stadium after the day’s LRK3DE dressage competition. No stadium seat ticket is required for Friday’s Ranking Class. More Grand Prix information is available here.
